Eastwood Drive - Running Out of Time

This was a fun session for me and the band. We wanted to have a live recording vibe for the song and video so we started by recording drums, bass and rhythm guitar. I ran with a miked guitar amp in the vocal booth, a DI on the bass and 4 mic setup on drums. After recording that we decided to overdub lead guitar DI into the board. Lastly, we recorded vocals in the booth. I recorded main vocals with 6 harmony tracks to add a lot of space and body.

Mixing this song was rewarding. I put a lot time into dialing in eq and creating space for each instrument. Mixing in mono, I started by carving out space in the mix for each instrument and then worked with some dynamic eq’s to really fix up some of the fights for certain frequencies. After doing the eqing, I moved into running compression and saturation to add some more color to the mix. When I felt the mix was clean, I started putting in some effects like reverb and then did some stereo work. I finalized the mix and did some mastering with some eq, compression, exciting and lastly some loudness work. I really enjoyed this mix and I’m proud of my final product.
